I've never enjoyed "social" media.
I'm from a different generation (that's right, I'm old. Now get off my lawn!) and the older I get, the more I appreciate real relationships. The hassle of constant updates, making myself seem busier or fancier than I am, creeping on other people... it always felt wrong.
My friends and family call, text or email me directly. Clients and potential clients do the same. So for me, is it helpful or a waste of time? I could go on but I wouldn't be able to match the wise words of Russ Barnes. Please read his post here:

Therefore due to a number of disheartening experiences lately I've decided to remove my book from Amazon and sell directly from the printer. No longer having to factor in their fees, the cost of the book is now lowered from $95 to $85.
